Generative Engine Optimization

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).

Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, is the work of getting a business named inside the answer an AI assistant writes, rather than only ranked in the list of links underneath it.

If you run a business in West Palm Beach, the practical question is simpler than the acronym. When somebody asks an assistant who to hire for what you do, does the answer say your name?

GEO, AEO and AI Engine Optimization are the same job.

Three names, one piece of work. Generative Engine Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization and AI Engine Optimization all mean being named and cited when an assistant answers a buying question. The acronym is not the point. Whether an answer names you is.

We call it AI Visibility because that is what business owners call it when they ring us.

What the work is.

1. Audit

Twenty buying questions for your category and area, asked the way a customer asks them. Every business named in every answer, how often each appears, and every source the answers cite. The wording and the date are recorded so the run can be repeated and checked.

2. Reverse engineer

We read the sources the answers actually cite, map the forums, threads and article shapes the engines already trust in your category, and identify the ones you can realistically appear in.

3. Build authority

Your service and location pages made easy to verify, your business information made consistent everywhere it appears, the questions buyers ask answered on pages an engine can read, and relevant mentions earned from sources outside your own website.

4. Get cited

We re-ask the same questions and show what changed. You see where your business is named more often, which competitors still appear, and where the next opportunity is. When a change made no difference, that goes in the record too.

In West Palm Beach.

On 24 September 2026 we put five buying questions about hiring an electrician in West Palm Beach to an AI answer engine and published the whole run, including what we failed to record at the time. Thirteen businesses were named across the five answers and five of them appeared exactly once. It is one engine and five questions, and we say so. It is published so it can be re-run against us.

Questions owners ask.

What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

GEO is the work of getting a business named inside the answer an AI assistant writes. A customer asks an assistant who to hire, the assistant writes a short answer naming a few businesses, and GEO is the work of being one of them. It is judged by whether your name appears in the answer, not by where a link sits on a results page.

Is GEO the same as AEO?

In practice yes, and the people selling it use the terms interchangeably. Generative Engine Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization and AI Engine Optimization all describe the same job: being named and cited when an assistant answers a buying question. We call it AI Visibility because that is what business owners call it.

How is GEO different from SEO?

Some of the work overlaps. Clear service pages, accurate business information and credible sources matter to both. The difference is what counts as success. SEO asks where your link ranks. GEO asks whether an assistant says your name, and what it says about you when it does. An answer has room for two or three names and then it stops, so there is no second page to be on.

Does GEO work for a local business in West Palm Beach?

It is where it matters most. When somebody asks an assistant who to hire in West Palm Beach, the answer names a handful of businesses for that trade and that area. Whether yours is among them depends on what your site says, whether your business information agrees everywhere it appears, and whether the sources those answers cite mention you at all.

How do I find out whether AI names my business today?

Ask. Put the five questions a customer in your category would ask to an assistant and write down every company named in each answer. That list is your real competition for those answers. Our free report does the same thing for your trade and your area, and records the questions, the companies named and the sources the answers cited, with the date.

Can anyone guarantee my business will be recommended?

No. Answer engines choose their own responses and those responses change. What can be done is measuring what the answers say today, improving the public information and evidence behind your business, and testing again so you can see what moved.

How long does GEO take to show anything?

Little moves in the first eight weeks. The work is cumulative: pages an engine can verify, business information that agrees across every listing, and mentions on sources an engine already trusts. The honest measure is re-asking the same questions on a schedule and comparing the answers to the ones recorded at the start.

What does a GEO engagement actually include?

Four moves. Audit the buying questions in your category and record who is named today. Work out why those names win by reading the sources the answers cite. Build the evidence and the mentions that make your business a candidate. Then re-run the questions and show what changed, including where nothing did.
