October 2026: 18 names, and no firm in all five

By Steven Allbright · published October 14, 2026run 13 October 2026

On 13 October 2026 we put five buying questions to an AI answer engine for personal injury attorneys in Palm Beach County, FL, and wrote down every company each answer named. Nobody paid for this run and no business was told it was happening.

Watch the run

We recorded this run so you can hear exactly what the answers said. Every question, every company named and every source is written out below as well.

  • 18 names came back across 5 of 5 answers.
  • None were named in every answer.
  • 12 were named once only.

The finding we did not expect

5 of the 18 names are not firms at all. They are directories — AVVO, Best Lawyers, SuperLawyers, Justia, Justia Lawyer Directory. Two of the five questions were answered mostly by pointing at a list rather than by naming someone to call.

That is the opposite of what the same five questions produced for electricians in September, where every name was a business the asker could ring.

The five questions, exactly as asked

These are fixed shapes. Only the service and the area change, so one run can be compared against another. Every shape carries the area on purpose: a question without a place name returns businesses from other states.

What we did not record

We recorded up to 6, most prominent first per answer rather than every business named. We did not record the model version behind the answer tool, whether personalisation was disabled, screenshots.

We did keep the full answer text and all 50 sources for this run, which is what September's run could not say.

One note on the counting: the run names AVVO and Justia Lawyer Directory as separate entries where a reader might treat two spellings as one. The names above are left exactly as they were recorded.

One run, on one day, through one engine, requesting 10 results per question. Answers vary by question, by platform, by location and by time. A result that names a business today may not tomorrow, and the reverse is just as true.
