AI search visibility · West Palm Beach, FL

Why is ChatGPT recommending my competitors instead of me?

Because your competitor is easier to trust. An assistant does not judge who is better. It names the business whose evidence it can check fastest, and right now that is not you.

Six reasons a competitor gets named.

Each one stops an engine from trusting your record enough to repeat it. The cheapest to check comes first.

01 · Agreement

Your details disagree with themselves

An old suite number on one directory and a new one on another. When the records conflict, the safe move is to name somebody else.

02 · Mentions

Only your own site describes you

If every sentence about you was written by you, there is nothing independent to check it against. Competitors turn up in roundups, forums and local coverage.

03 · Access

The crawler cannot read the page

A blocked bot, or copy that only appears after the JavaScript runs. Different assistants depend on different crawlers, and they are not interchangeable.

04 · Freshness

Nothing has changed in a year

A page last touched in 2024 is weaker evidence than one updated last month. Reviews that describe the job beat reviews that only carry a star.

05 · Clarity

No sentence says what, who and where

An assistant has to restate your business in one line. If your homepage will not do it, the line gets written about somebody clearer.

06 · Category

You are filed under the wrong thing

A category that does not match the question is a near miss. The answer is assembled from businesses that already fit the question.

Trust here is a mechanism.

Ranking puts a link in a list and lets the reader choose. An assistant writes one answer and names a few businesses inside it.

No engine likes anybody. What it calls trust is how much of your record it can check before it has to commit to a name. A business can sit on page one and never clear that bar.

So the work is evidence, not persuasion: make the record agree with itself, get described by somebody other than yourself, and make sure the pages can be read at all.

Questions owners ask.

Does paying for ads or SEO fix it?

Not on its own. Ads buy placement beside an answer, not inside it. Ranking helps an assistant find you, but being findable is the floor. The deciding factor is whether what it finds agrees with itself.

Can anyone guarantee I get named instead?

No. An answer varies by day, by phrasing, by location and by model version, and nobody controls it. What you can work on is the evidence the engine reads: whether your details agree, whether independent sources describe you, and whether your pages can be read at all.

How long does it take to change?

It depends on which reason applies. A blocked crawler or a wrong suite number can be fixed in a day, and the change appears whenever that source is next read. Being described by independent sources is slower, because somebody else has to publish it.

Is this the same as ranking on Google?

No. A ranking gives the reader a list of links to pick from. An assistant writes one answer and names a few businesses inside it. You can rank on page one and never be named.

What does it cost to have this done for me?
